Listen to Ms Nonhlanla Mswele and Ms Gretta Nkosi share how obtaining title deeds for their properties has given them security and provided opportunities for them. The two women and more than 300 others from low-income households in the iLembe district now have proof of ownership for their properties.
This pilot project to reduce the cost and complications of obtaining a land or house title was led by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), World Bank Group. IFC partnered with the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), the Vuthela iLembe LED Support Programme and the KwaDukuza and Mandeni Municipalities.
The innovative programme works by leveraging South Africa’s Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) socio-economic development spend. Conveyancers and conveyancing firms who assist beneficiaries pro bono are able to claim B-BBEE credit/points.
